there is actually nothing worse than when someone that you talked to everyday just suddenly stops and you’re left to wonder what the hell went wrong

So if you saw my post two weeks ago, I mentioned how I was studying abroad for 12 days in the beautiful country of Costa Rica. I got home on June 30th and have been dreaming of the day I can go back ever since.
I went their on a study abroad with The GREEN Program and honestly it was one of the best experiences of my life. As a young adult at 18 years old, leaving the country on my own for two weeks was something I was really nervous about. I didn’t know any of the other 10 people on my trip and this was the first time I have left the country alone, and also the first time I have ever flown on plane alone.
However, right when I got to the airport in Liberia, I felt at home. The counsellors and my fellow study abroad-ers were so friendly and nice and it wasn’t until about two days into the trip that I found out that all of them were two, three and even four years older than me! By the end of the trip, these people would become like family and I felt like they were my older brothers and sisters.
The program itself was wonderful and I have learned so much. It was all about renewable energy and every morning (bright and oh so very early) at 7am we had class and we went on a plant visit. We also went on excursions around the country such as hiking, zip-lining, swimming in waterfalls, paddle boarding, dance parties and so much more! Then at the end of the trip we had to come up with idea to promote sustainability and present it. It was hilarious too because the people that were supposed to watch our presentations were over an hour late so they let us go to the bar and grab a few beers beforehand - gotta love having an 18 year old legal drinking age!
Saying goodbye at the end was so difficult, I ended up crying along with a few other people. We all got so close and because everyone on the trip was from all over the country and all over the world, the chances we would see each other ever again is slim. We do still stay in touch via a Facebook group.
I seriously encourage anyone interested in renewable energy or a green lifestyle to check out this program, I promise you won’t regret it. It’s such a life changing, once in a lifetime experience!
